India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been taken to a hospital in Sydney and is now in the Intensive Care Unit after experiencing internal bleeding from a rib injury he got during the third game against Australia. Iyer, who made a fantastic catch while running backward to get Alex Carey out, seems to have hurt his left rib cage during the play and was quickly taken to the hospital soon after he got back to the dressing room on Saturday. "Shreyas has been in the ICU for the last few days. After various tests, they found internal bleeding, and he needed to be admitted right away. He will need to stay under observation for about two to seven days based on how he is healing, as they want to prevent any infection from the bleeding," a source close to the situation told PTI while remaining anonymous.

The BCCI medical team acted quickly after Iyer's important health signs changed when he returned to the dressing room. "The team doctor and physiotherapist didn't want to take any risks and rushed him to the hospital without delay. He is stable now, but it could have been serious. He is strong and should recover soon," the source continued. At first, Iyer was anticipated to be sidelined for roughly three weeks, but now the healing time might be longer. "Due to the internal bleeding, he will definitely need extra time to get better, and right now, it’s hard to say when he might return to playing competitive cricket," the source mentioned. The 31-year-old is expected to stay in the Sydney hospital for at least a week before being cleared to fly back to India. Iyer is currently not a member of India's T20 team.
