Attack by a lunatic man has gripped fear in La Verne neighborhood. Residents are on high alert after the inhuman attack on a 21-year-old woman on Thursday.

"She just said she was walking her dog and this guy came up to her and began stabbing her," said Captain Nick Paz, from the La Verne Police Department.

The horrified incident occurred during night hours in Las Flores Park.

"Just by his actions we're thinking maybe some kind of mental issue ... you just don't go up to people and begin stabbing them for no reason," Paz said.

The victim said she didn’t know her attacker, but her detail about the assailant has given rough idea to police. As per her information he was in his 20s, wore a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans on that day. After the attack, he fled from there.

The residents are unknown about this person who frequented the park with their children.

"That's serious, I've never heard of anything like that," Lloyd Zadanoff said.

The park happens to be busy place among most of the parents and children as it also includes city’s aquatic center.

Swim coach, Cory Ornstein said “parents were really, really frightened about what happened."

Investigation to find whereabouts of the attacker has been launched and a phone number has been dedicated for any information regarding the person.
